An ideal seaside conclusion to your Egyptian adventure

Somewhere beneath the legendary city of Alexandria lie the remains of Alexander the Great, buried here in 325BC. The city was founded just seven years earlier, and became a capital of ancient wonders – the great lighthouse, library and catacombs, for example – though little of this grand architecture remains today. Instead, it is a vibrant, Mediterranean port spread along 30 kilometres of brilliant coastline – a pleasant antidote to the bustle of Cairo. Egyptians love the place and come here during the hot summer months to stroll along the spacious promenades by day and enjoy the bountiful seafood by night. Alexandria boasts an excellent museum and the major WW II battlefields at nearby El Alamein further add to its richly layered history.
