Rest of day to relax and prepare for your adventure. Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Hotel included Grand Canyon National Park After our morning briefing, we leave Phoenix behind as we begin our journey with the morning sun. Home to national parks and forests, national monuments and deserts, Arizona is also home to some of the most picturesque waterfalls in the world; and our first day takes us to Arizona's most famous resident, Grand Canyon National Park. Approximately 450 kilometres long, the Grand Canyon is one of the most impressive national parks in the USA. The South Kaibab and Bright Angel trails offer incredible views of the vast park and there will be opportunities for a ranger guided day hike as well as exploring trails at your own pace to discover the inimitable canyon. Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Hotel included Grand Canyon & Route 66 We will take our time to appreciate the dramatic sunrise over the crimson-ochre canyon walls. And a visit to the Grand Canyon would not be complete without a birds-eye view; and if you're interested, our guide will organize a scenic helicopter flight to appreciate the canyon's full grandeur. From the Grand Canyon, we visit historic Route 66 for a taste of Americana and a get good night's rest before making our way to the Havasupai Tribal Reservation, where the "Havasu Baaja", or "People of the Blue Green Water", make their home. Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Hotel included Havasupai Tribal Reservation We start our morning trek with the dawn; and leaving early to avoid the midday sun, we begin the 13 km descent deep into the heart of the reservation. The trail is moderately difficult, with initially steep switchbacks for the first three kilometres, and then it becomes rocky further along. You will only need to carry a day pack with necessities such as water, snacks and your camera as we will support the hike with pack mules to carry the luggage. Along the way, we will undoubtedly pass other hikers and possibly a train of pack horses, as the Havasupai Reservation is the only place in the United States of America that still receives its mail via horse/mule train. Don't try and stroke the horses or it could delay someone's mail! Upon arrival to the reservation, we will make ourselves at home at our luxury base camp along the river. Meals: Included | Accommodation: Luxury Camping included Havasupai Tribal Reservation With daily guided hikes we will explore the beautiful Havasu, Navajo and Mooney Waterfalls, as well as nearby hidden canyons and refreshing natural swimming pools. Delicious, hearty meals will be prepared daily for you at camp and provide you with plenty of energy. And there will be ample time to relax, take in the beautiful views, or even trek to the Colorado River itself, 30km further down! Meals: Included | Accommodation: Luxury Camping included Havasupai & Phoenix We will hike the 16km back to "civilization" (a scenic helicopter flight may be available) before returning to Phoenix for an included hotel night and the finish of this inspiring trip of a lifetime. Meals: Paid locally | Accommodation: Hotel included Tour will end in Phoenix on day 8.
