Everest Base Camp17 days - from $1750Trek through Sherpa heartland to the foot of the world's highest peakEverest (8848m) - there is no greater mountain. This lodge-based trek follows in the footsteps of the great climbing parties. Trekking through Sherpa country past cultivated fields and small villages, we follow the Dudh Kosi before the hard work begins as we climb up to Namche Bazaar. Above the tree line the scenery is stark but spectacular. The incredible monastery at Thyangboche is a photographer's paradise, set against the backdrop of Ama Dablam, Everest and other huge, snowcapped peaks. With time for acclimatisation en route, our goal is Everest Base Camp on the Khumbu Glacier and the opportunity to climb Kala Pattar (5545m) for a breathtaking view of the highest mountain on earth. Itinerary:Day 1 Start Kathmandu. 2 Free in Kathmandu. 3 Take the short but spectacular flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding. 4-5 Follow the Dudh Kosi and ascend to Namche Bazaar, with time to explore the Sherpa villages. 6 Trek through the Sherpa heartland to the monastery at Thyangboche for superb mountain views. 7-8-9 Continue up the main Khumbu Valley past Dingboche and ascend towards Everest. 10-11 Climb Kala Pattar for classic mountain views of Everest, and visit Base Camp. 12-13-14 Retrace our steps to Namche and walk to the mountain airstrip at Lukla. 15 Fly to Kathmandu. 16 Free in Kathmandu 17 End Kathmandu. Mode of travel: 12 days point-to-point walking with full porterage. Altitude maximum 5545m, average 3900m. Group size: Normally 1 to 16, plus leader and appropriate local staff.
