Cycling The Dalmatian Coast

8 days - from $1370

Secluded beaches, wonderful old towns, tranquil islands and the walled city of Dubrovnik
With 1778km of coastline and 1185 offshore islands, the Dalmatian Coast is one of the true wonders of Europe. Said to have the clearest waters in the Mediterranean, and undoubtedly packed with historic and cultural interest, cycling through its islands is a unique experience. From our arrival in Split almost until we reach Dubrovnik, our journey takes place on the long and beautiful islands of Hvar and Korcula, travelling by bike and ferry. The scenery alternates between seaside villages, tiny mediaeval walled towns and lovely quiet pebble bays, set against a backdrop of pine forests and mountains. Our final leg takes us to the red roofs of Dubrovnik, the proud port that once rivalled Venice in wealth and influence. We have two nights here to soak up the atmosphere of this uniquely preserved city.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Start Jelsa on island of Hvar. 2 Circular ride exploring lovely island of Hvar, including Hvar town with its exquisite Venetian architecture. 3 Ride east along narrow part of island with views of both coasts, heading to port of Sucuraj; ferry via mainland to Korcula, our base for the next three nights. 4 Scenic ride on forested island of Korcula, from Vela Luka to Korcula town. 5 Free day in Korcula for relaxation. Optional visit (with bikes) to picturesque island of Mljet. 6 Ride through the vineyards of Peljesac Peninsula towards the mainland; continue to Dubrovnik by bus. 7 Full free day in Dubrovnik to explore this beautifully preserved walled city. 8 End Dubrovnik.
