The high altitude and sunny plateaux of the Eastern Pyrenees make a perfect destination for cross-country skiing. Our base for the week is the charming spa town of Ax-les-Thermes, offering easy access to over 120km of 'skating' and 'classic' cross-country trails on the plateaux of Beille and Chioula. Here the altitude gives a unique setting for cross-country skiing: spectacular 360 degree views of the stunning surrounding high peaks and deep valleys. The clearly marked trails vary in length and difficulty, enabling us to provide this uniquely flexible holiday - you can ski independently, with others at your grade, or with our experienced tour leaders, James and Cathy Thompson, who will offer guided ski tours at different levels. James is a qualified cross-country ski instructor and will be on hand to offer formal lessons to beginners and informal 'top tips' for improvers throughout the week.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Start in Ax-les-Thermes 2-7 5 days of guided skiing at Beille and Chioula, and one free day. 8 End in Ax-les-Thermes

Mode of travel: 5 days of cross-country skiing; suitable for track skiers of various levels, from complete beginners through to experienced skiers, and especially for those who like the option to ski independently.

Accommodation: Hotel Le Terminus ** hotelThe hotel is run by Alain and Elizabeth, who offer a warm welcome and are proud to serve delicious evening meals using meat from local producers and seasonal vegetables. The rooms are large and all have a window overlooking the River Ariege. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the centre of Ax-les-Thermes, opposite the railway station.
