The last stronghold of the Inca royal family following the Spanish conquest, Choquequirao is one of the best-preserved Inca cities and bears strong similarities to Machu Picchu, both in its architectural style and its stunning location. Our trekking route is dominated by the lofty snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, but is extremely diverse as we cross the Apurimac River, hike over high passes surrounded by glaciers and finally descend into the humid cloud forest surrounding Machu Picchu itself.Why travel to Peru with Exodus?

Day 1 Start Cuzco; afternoon walking tour. 2 Free day for optional activities. 3 Full day walk exploring Inca ruins around Cuzco. 4 Drive to Cachora; start trek and cross Capuliyoc Pass (2915m); camp at Chuquisaca. 5 Cross Apurimac River then climb up to Santa Rosa and Maranpata (2850m); continue to camp near Choquequirao (3035m). 6 Full day exploring the magnificent site and its surroundings. 7 Cross Choquequirao Pass (3215m) then descend to Rio Blanco and continue on to hamlet of Maizal. 8 Steep climb over San Juan Pass (4170m) with impressive views of nearby mountains; descend to Yanama (3400m). 9 Trek amidst Vilcabamba Range and over Yanama Pass (4580m) sourrounded by glaciers; continue to Colpapampa (1850m) 10 Follow Salcantay River down to Playa. 11 Hike to Urubamba River then train to Aguas Calientes. 12 Morning tour of Machu Picchu; afternoon return to Cuzco 13 Free day in Cuzco. 14 End Cuzco.
