Tangier & Andalucian Architecture
We begin in the port of Tangier, one of Morocco's most evocative cities perched on the corner of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines. After an optional tour of its bustling medina we take a public bus through forests and olive groves into the Rif, Morocco's most northerly mountain range. We are in the land of the 'Ghomara', nine tribes ranging from the farmers of the hills to the fishermen of the coast, whose way of life has remained unchanged for centuries. We spend a night in the beautiful Andalucian walled town of Chefchouan set above the Oued Laou valley.

Medieval Fes & Roman Ruins
Our journey south next takes us to Fes, the oldest of Morocco's Imperial Cities. Here you may like to take a tour of the medina of Fes El Bali, now a UNESCO heritage site. Closed to motor vehicles, the medieval medina remains complete and unspoiled and a walk through the souks is one of the world's great travel experiences. We also visit the Bou Inania Medersa and learn more about the Isamic history of this very traditional area. Continuing our journey by rail we reach Rabat, the country's capital, and explore the Kasbah of the Oudaias and Roman site of the Chellah.

By Rail to the 'Red City'
A further rail journey takes us via Casalanca and inland to the edge of the High Atlas mountains and our final destination - the 'red city' of Marrakech. The pink, mud-brick walls surrounding the old city, overlooked by palm trees, makes for an unforgettable first impression. Here there is the chance to tour the medina, souks, Koutoubia mosque and the famed Djemma El Fna square. A final travel-must is to return to the square in the evening as it transforms into an open-air circus of snake-charmers, acrobats, musicians and story-tellers that will keep you entertained long into the night.
