Pyramids & Sphinx
We start our journey in Cairo, the bustling capital of Egypt and a place that is dubbed 'the city that never sleeps'!. We head first for the Great Pyramids of Giza on the sands outside the capital where there is the opportunity to venture into the very centre of a pyramid. Just as impressive is the enigmatic Sphinx, which is estimated to be even older than the Great Pyramids. We also visit the amazing artefacts at the Egyptian Museum with the highlight being the gold of Tutankhamen and his creepy mummified remains!
Lake Nasser & Felucca sailing
We board the sleeper train south to the city of Aswan where we meet the trekking boat to discover the depths of Lake Nasser. The only inhabitants you are likely to come across in the wilderness are lone fishermen as we are able to explore areas inaccessible by other means of transport. We trek on the sand dunes, swim in the lake and discover temples where we are likely to be the only visitors present. We board our feluccas the following day and sail north towards Luxor. The teenagers will also get the chance to help the local crew in setting up the camp and assist the cook to make the traditional meals for the group as we share our stories of the day by the campfire.
Ancient Sites of Luxor & The Red Sea
There's the chance to take an optional hot-air balloon flight over ancient Thebes while in Luxor before travelling by donkey to Queen Hatshepsut Temple. We also visit the Valley of the Kings before taking a horse-drawn calesh to Karnak to explore the colossal Temple of Amun. Moving on to Safaga, we experience a different aspect of Egypt, the Red Sea. The warm waters are great for snorkelling amidst a dazzling show of multi-coloured fish and coral. We also try our hands at wind surfing at a stretch of the coast that is world renowned for this sport. Finally, we fly back to Cairo and visit a school at the Egyptian Museum to try our hand at making sculptures and statues.
