Kas & Ancient Antiphellus
We stay at the conveniently located Club Phellos, right at the heart of Kas. Within easy walking distance are the market, the laid back town square and the scattered remains of ancient Antiphellus. These include rock-cut Lycian tombs and a wonderfully located Hellenistic theatre, surrounded by olive groves and with views across the bay. Kas is a great place to relax: restaurants, bars and low-key cafes spill out onto cobbled streets, with a network of tiny back-alleys which are fun to explore. Plus, there are two small beaches close to the hotel.

Paddle to Patara...
After a day spent swimming and snorkelling in crystal clear waters around Kas, we venture inland to Xanthos, once the provincial capital of this ancient land. From here we paddle gently downstream in our river canoes, passing tranquil and unspoilt rural backwaters along the way, and emerge at Patara Beach. This 18km stretch of golden sand is a protected nesting site for the giant loggerhead turtle, Caretta caretta, and one of Turkey's best known beaches. We enjoy a well-earned swim before returning to our hotel.

... & Kayak to Kekova
We head for the hills in an exploration of the hinterland; pine forests, rushing streams, shady glades and tiny, charming villages where the pattern of life has remained almost untouched for centuries. Next we kayak in Kekova, visiting the underwater and partially submerged ruins of Kekova Island and pretty Simena (please note that smaller children may prefer to travel - accompanied by an adult - on the support boat instead). Simena itself is a tiny village accessible only by footpath or from the sea, where laneways link flower-garlanded stone cottages. Its hilltop castle affords breathtaking views of the region and the route of our kayak voyage.
