In the shadows of 5000m peaks, some of  which are still unclimbed, we will encounter vast snow-covered glaciers, crystal clear emerald-green rivers, blue skies and colourful panoramas where we will be welcomed by the traditional hospitality of Kyrgyz shepherds sharing a cup of  local tea or 'Kymyz' (fermented mare’s milk).Cosmopolitan Tashkent reveals a modern day Uzbekistan with Samarkand conjuring up images of  the romance and intrigue of the Great Game, of skull caps and silk sashes, of fabulously coloured mosaic domes and minarets. On this journey to the heart of Central Asia we gain an insight into the various cultures and stunning landscapes of one of the world’s most picturesque regions.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Start Tashkent. 2 Drive to Uzgarish in Kyrgyzstan stopping off at bazaar of Isfana. 3 Walk along Akmechet River past juniper trees and alpine meadows; camp with views of Aksu (5354m) and Iskander (5163m) peaks. 4 Acclimitisation walk in Kara-Su valley; visit shepherds' yurts. 5 Climb past the moraine of the glacier to the cirque of Aksu (3600 m); return to camp via more yurts. 6 Ascend over Uryam Pass (3600m) with panoramic views of the entire valley. 7 Cross Ashat Pass (4140 m). 8 Trek to glacier for views of Sabakh Peak (5282m); return to camp. 9 Descend along Layli- Mazar valley along rough trails. 10 Return to Uzgarish passing traditional villages and orchards. 11 Drive to Samarkand. 12 Explore Samarkand including Registan Square and the Mausoleum of Tamerlane. 13 Drive to Tashkent; free afternoon. 14 End Tashkent.
