With a varied itinerary, this trip gives a great insight to the rich cultural heritage and amazing landscapes that Tunisia has to offer - no wonder the country has so often been chosen as a setting for Hollywood films! We travel from the Mediterranean to the Sahara via the troglodyte caves of Matmata and the amazing Chott El Djerid Salt Lake. Our time in the Sahara, where the dunes stretch for miles, is a highlight for many. We take a camel ride into the desert and spend a night sleeping amongst the dunes - truly the best way to experience this amazing landscape. This holiday won a 'Tours of a Lifetime' National Geographic Award ; April 2010.  The Observer - Ursula Kenny put aside her townie's fear of the great outdoors to trek through the Sahara (21 September 2008). 

Itinerary:

Day 1 Start Djerba. 2 Day of sightseeing including visit to a live crocodile museum! 3 Visit the ksours (fortified structures) of Tataouine. 4 To Matmata, visit the troglodyte homes. Transfer to Douz. 5 To Sahara for camel trek. Supper and sleeping under the stars. 6 To Tozeur via the Chott Djerid Salt Lake. Optional activities by the lake. Visit the old town of Tozeur (1001 Nights museum optional). Enjoy sunset at Nefta Oasis. 7 Take Red Lizard Train through dramatic scenery to mines at Moulares (OR Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride around the palm oasis of Tozeur); continue to mountain oasis. Visit film sets of The English Patient and Star Wars. Return to Tozeur. 8 End Tozeur.

Mode of travel: Flights via Tunis with Tunis Air. Transport private minibus, 4WD and camel!
Group size: Min. 4, max. 16, plus guide and driver(s).
Accommodation: 6 nights hotels and 1 night basic camping among the desert dunes. We travel to our desert camp by camel and spend the night in a large Bedouin-style tent. Our cooks prepare traditional dishes, baking bread in the sand, and we are entertained at night with music and dancing round the campfire.
Food: All breakfasts, 1 lunch and 6 dinners included.
